A charming little waterfront town with the most unique shops you’ve ever seen. Enjoy eateries with
cuisine of almost every culture. Discover island-style souvenirs for the whole family, and
anything else you need for your Hawaii vacation.

With a land area of 4,000 square miles, the island of Hawai’i makes up about two-thirds of the
state’s land area. That’s why we call it the “Big Island.” And, it’s still growing – lava from the
20-year old eruption is flowing into the sea, adding to the island’s land mass. If you have the
time, visit Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park and witness the event.

Volcano Village and Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park are only a 40-minute drive on
Highway 11 from Hilo’s Airport.

VOLCANO HOTLINE
Kilauea Volcano has been erupting since Jan. 3, 1983. When traveling to
Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park to see the volcano erupting, it’s a good idea to check
ahead by calling the National Park Service’s 24-hour hotline, (808) 985-6000.
